Most of the rest of your post I could almost agree with except the position that not playing your better guys more than your 4th line is a prudent use of your limited resources. When your best guys are your penalty killers, also your best chance on the power play and compose your #1 and #2 lines they will need to play more. You watch the games they come off the ice for rest and presto line 3 and 4 end up in the penalty box and they are right back out. The game usually dictates playing time and when you are down 4-5 starters that means somebody plays more. it’s what those players do with that added time that decides the W or the L
The thing is...that in a normal play there are most minutes were there is no power or boxplay and then you can, especially as home team, react on the lines of your oponent...so you can play with third and fourth line, it makes no sence -in my opinion- to force everytime the same players, espacially if you also need them in power- and boxplay...it is only my opinon and my knowledge from watching several teams, espacially teams where the coaches have pressure to win matches...but we do not have this pressure at the moment as we wound go up to NL and can not go down to myhockey league...
